Enthusiasm: throw some kerosene on your inner flame!

Enthusiasm… an in-house favorite for sure! But isn’t enthusiasm just being overly optimistic and smiling your way through life like the jolly bunch of cartoon characters below?

If you are familiar with the “Happy Tree Friends”, you probably know what direction this is heading. If you are not: do NOT watch this show with your kids, unless you just bought a copy of the book “Loving someone with PTSD” and you want to see the theory in practice…

Being overly optimistic with a wide smile on your face is not being enthusiastic at all, but rather being naïve. Spoiler alert: it is their naïve attitude that gets the characters of Happy Tree Friends killed each and every episode in the most gruesome ways, so not exactly what you should be aiming for…

We at Tilt – Improv Based Learning see enthusiasm as a state of body/mind where you are fully energized and have the feeling you can move mountains. And although it might sound wrong in times of a global pandemic, it can be contagious too!

There is more good news: enthusiasm is something that you can work on!

When you are fully enthusiastic about something, it is as if you feel a fire burning inside. So the key is to figure out what powers your internal flame₍₁₎.

One way to fuel that inner flame is figuring out where your natural talents lie, and how you can use them in both your personal as well as your professional life. We are strong believers in the Strengths Based Coaching approach developed by Gallup, for which we are also formally certified. When you get to know your talents and learn how to develop them into real strengths, you will find more joy in the activities you undertake.

If you take it (quite) a few steps further, you can look beyond your talents and think about your purpose in life. Although defining your purpose is a pretty complex challenge that most people don’t have a crisp answer to, we have definitely some pragmatic ways in our portfolio to start unraveling it.

Finding and fulfilling your purpose is not a prerequisite for being enthusiastic, but if you manage to do this while making use of your talents, don’t be surprised if your inner flame evolves from “tealight candle” to “Rammstein concert”!

Want to bring more Enthusiasm to your team? Tilt – Improv Based Learning is definitely enthusiastic about that! We have an exciting mix of theory and activities prepared that will start feeding your inner flame! The “Enthusiasm” training program can also perfectly be combined with individual and team Strengths Coaching for you and your team, leaving you with some motivational fireworks!

In the meantime, we at Tilt – Improv Based Learning are getting very enthusiastic about a new upcoming project that will open a whole new playing field to experiment with improvisation. But more about that in a next blogpost...

₍₁₎ For fanatic Trump followers: do NOT ingest any form of fossil fuel to power your internal flame, or since that advice would limit your freedom, at least clear this blogpost from your browser history before you do so!
